La Pèira en Damaisèla | Terrasses du Larzac
La Pèira en Damaisèla is a leading wine estate from the Terrasses du Larzac, one of the most distinctive and characterful appellations of the Languedoc. Located on the southern edge of the Larzac plateau, the estate combines altitude, cooling influences and ancient alluvial soils to produce wines of depth, structure and elegance.
Although La Pèira was established in its current form in 2004, the vineyards lie within what is considered the oldest wine‑growing region in France. Today, the estate translates this exceptional heritage into a range of terroir‑driven red and white wines, crafted with a strong focus on precision, balance and ageing potential. La Pèira en Damaisèla stands for authentic, high‑quality Languedoc wines with a clear sense of place.
Terroir & microclimate of La Pèira
The vineyards of La Pèira cover approximately 15.3 hectares and are spread across several lieux‑dits, including Bois de Pauliau, Belle Feuille (Belle Fiolle) and Les Pointes. Each parcel has its own soil composition and microclimate, contributing to the complexity and nuance of the wines.
The soils consist of ancient Quaternary alluvial deposits from the Pliocene, composed of gravel, sand, silt and clay, derived from eroded Jurassic limestone to the north. These fan‑shaped formations provide excellent natural drainage and force the vines to root deeply, resulting in concentration, structure and natural tension.
The climate is Mediterranean, yet strongly influenced by altitude and the cooling winds of the Larzac plateau. These moderating factors bring fresh nights and slow the ripening process, allowing maturity and freshness to remain in perfect balance.
Karine Ahton & Rob Dougan: a vision rooted in respect for terroir
La Pèira en Damaisèla was founded in 2004 by Karine Ahton and Rob Dougan. Karine Ahton, originally from Montpellier, has a background in law and business management. Rob Dougan is a composer and musician with an international career, who was deeply drawn to the history, landscape and viticultural potential of the Terrasses du Larzac.
Their vision is based on the idea that the vineyards represent a “found heritage”, shaped by generations of winegrowers before them. Their role is to guide and interpret this terroir with respect, without imposing a predefined style. Patience, precision and attention to detail are central to their approach.
Terroir‑driven winemaking at the highest level
What sets La Pèira en Damaisèla apart within the Languedoc is its deliberate positioning at the highest quality level, with a clear focus on terroir expression. The estate works exclusively with estate‑grown fruit, maintains low yields, and vinifies parcel by parcel, ensuring that each cuvée retains a clear and direct link to its origin.
The style of the wines is powerful and concentrated, yet always supported by freshness, structure and balance. Excess is avoided; depth and layered complexity take precedence.
The wines of La Pèira en Damaisèla
The wines of La Pèira form a carefully structured and coherent collection, in which each cuvée has a clearly defined place. They share a common philosophy: terroir expression, structure and ageing potential are key.
All grapes are hand‑harvested and rigorously selected. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, and each parcel is vinified separately to preserve its individual character.
Ageing is carried out in a combination of wooden vats and large oak vessels, with the use of new oak deliberately kept to a minimum. The wines are unfiltered or only lightly filtered, preserving texture, aromatic complexity and authenticity.
La Pèira – Grand Vin
The estate’s flagship cuvée, sourced from the Bois de Pauliau lieu‑dit. Based primarily on Syrah and Grenache, complemented by other Mediterranean varieties. A concentrated, structured wine that captures the essence of the terroir and is built for long ageing.
Las Flors de la Pèira
The estate’s second wine, produced with the same care and precision as the Grand Vin. From the Belle Feuille lieu‑dit, blending Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre, sometimes complemented by Cinsault and Carignan. More approachable in style, yet clearly terroir‑driven.
Les Obriers de la Pèira
The most direct and expressive cuvée of the estate. Made primarily from Cinsault and Carignan, sourced from Belle Feuille and Les Pointes. A wine focused on fruit, spice and drinkability, without sacrificing structure or seriousness.
La Pèira Blanc
A white wine produced in very limited quantities, based on Mediterranean white varieties such as Viognier. Focused on structure and texture, with a distinctly gastronomic profile and notable depth.
Deusyls de la Pèira Blanc
The most ambitious white cuvée of the estate. Complex and structured, conceived as an exceptional gastronomic wine, with ageing potential and a clearly defined terroir signature.
Serving temperature & food pairing
Red wines: serve at 16–18 °C
White wines: serve at 10–12 °C
Thanks to their structure and balance, the wines of La Pèira are particularly well suited to gastronomy. The red cuvées pair beautifully with lamb, beef, game and spiced Mediterranean dishes, while the white wines complement poultry, fish and dishes with aromatic or creamy accents.
Timeless wines for those who look beyond trends
La Pèira en Damaisèla is aimed at wine lovers and connoisseurs seeking wines with personality, a strong sense of terroir and genuine ageing potential. The wines appeal to those who value authenticity, origin and precision over fleeting trends.
The estate offers an intense yet refined tasting experience, where the power of the Languedoc is combined with elegance, freshness and structure. Each cuvée reflects the unique character of the Terrasses du Larzac, delivering wines that evolve beautifully both in their youth and after several years of ageing. La Pèira en Damaisèla thus represents timeless, terroir‑driven French wines, proudly rooted in their origin.
