Beaune 1er Cru Clos du Roi from Domaine Chanson comes from a historic 2.4 hectare parcel located just below the famous Marconnets. The south east exposure and the mix of loess, clay and sand give this Pinot Noir a beautiful balance of ripe fruit, refined structure and subtle minerality; a classic Beaune expression combining both elegance and character.

In the glass, Clos du Roi shows a bright ruby colour. The nose opens with floral notes and ripe red berries — especially gooseberry and raspberry — complemented by fine spices and an integrated touch of vanilla. On the palate, the wine is powerful and rounded, with a smooth texture and silky tannins; the flavour profile is gastronomic, well balanced and finishes long, fruit driven and lightly spicy.

Winemaking is traditional and meticulous: hand harvesting in small crates, partial destemming (around 50 %) and a five day cold pre fermentation maceration. Fermentation takes place in small stainless steel tanks, and pressing is gentle, using gravity. The wine then ages eighteen months on lees in French oak barrels (around 25 % new), adding structure and finesse without overshadowing the pure fruit.

Serve at 14–16 °C. This Beaune 1er Cru pairs beautifully with duck breast on creamy corn purée, guinea fowl or partridge, and rich aged cheeses; it also shines alongside classic French game and poultry dishes.
