This Beaune Premier Cru Clos du Roi is a classic red Burgundy from Domaine Rapet Père & Fils, originating from a historic climat located in the northern part of the commune of Beaune. Made from Pinot Noir, the wine comes from vineyards replanted after the severe winter of 1985.

Clos du Roi was formerly owned by the Dukes of Burgundy and was annexed by King Louis?XI after the death of Charles the Bold, giving this premier cru an additional historical dimension. The style is refined and well-balanced, with a pronounced fruit-driven character and soft, polished tannins.

In the glass, the wine displays a bright ruby-red color. The nose is highly expressive, offering aromas of ripe red fruit. On the palate, it is both delicate and concentrated, with a soft, almost velvety texture. Fruit takes center stage, supported by particularly gentle tannins, resulting in an elegant structure and a harmonious, lingering finish.

The grapes are hand-harvested into small crates and carefully sorted at the winery. Alcoholic fermentation lasts approximately fifteen days, with regular punch-downs to extract color and aromatic richness from the skins. After pressing, the wine is aged in oak barrels, 20% of which are new. Racking is carried out without pumps to ensure gentle handling and preserve the wine’s natural richness and finesse.

This Beaune Premier Cru shows best at a serving temperature of around 15?°C. It pairs beautifully with duck breast, roasted leg of lamb, and can also offer surprisingly elegant matches with grilled fish.
