Clos Erasmus

Clos Erasmus is the iconic flagship cuvée of Clos i Terrasses, born from old Garnacha parcels planted on the steep terraces of Priorat. The wine embodies the site’s identity: poor, schist rich soils, low yields and a climate of hot days and cool nights deliver concentration, minerality and a striking freshness. Clos Erasmus enjoys international acclaim and has been awarded 100/100 by Robert Parker on multiple occasions, a recognition that underlines its status as a regional benchmark.

In the glass Clos Erasmus shows a deep, dark ruby to purple hue. The nose opens with intense black and red fruit, bramble and black cherry, complemented by laurel, graphite, cedar and a fine spicy thread. On the palate the wine is full and layered: concentrated fruit strata, a taut mineral spine and ripe, refined tannins that carry the structure. The finish is long and complex, with evolving layers that continue to unfold over years.

Winemaking is focused on precision and terroir expression: hand harvesting, strict selection and slow, often spontaneous fermentations in small barrels and foudres. The estate pairs traditional oak ageing with experiments in amphorae and concrete to balance texture and purity; many bottles are released with minimal fining to preserve aromatic integrity. This restrained, artisanal approach allows wood, fruit and mineral elements to work in harmony without masking the terroir.

Serve Clos Erasmus at 16–18 °C and allow time for aeration. It pairs beautifully with slow braised lamb, rich game dishes, hearty stews and mature hard cheeses; at celebratory dinners and special occasions its complexity is best revealed.
