El Hondonico by Artadi is a pure, characterful expression of Monastrell from the high altitude valleys around Hondón de los Frailes and Pinoso. This cuvée reveals the Mediterranean soul of the grape, but in a fresher, more elegant style. The result is a lively, approachable red wine with a strong sense of place.
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby colour. The nose opens with aromas of ripe red berries, cherries, violets and Mediterranean herbs, complemented by subtle notes of graphite and a hint of liquorice. On the palate, the wine is juicy and energetic, with soft tannins, fresh acidity and a spicy, lightly mineral finish that beautifully reflects the altitude and limestone soils.
Vinification respects the terroir: manual harvesting, spontaneous fermentation and ageing in concrete vats and large wooden casks. This preserves the wine’s pure fruit and natural tension, without heavy oak influence.
Serve at 15–17°C. Excellent with grilled chicken, spicy tapas, roasted vegetables, tomato based pasta dishes and Mediterranean cuisine with herbs and olive oil.
