Finca Meixemán is the historic heart of Adegas Guímaro: the family’s oldest vineyard, planted on steep granite and slate terraces in Amandi, high above the Sil River. The parcels lie between 350 and 500 metres in altitude and are worked entirely by hand, heroic viticulture in its purest form. The old vines, over seventy years of age, consist mainly of Mencía, complemented by local varieties such as Brancellao, Merenzao, Sousón, Garnacha and Mouratón, making this site a true Galician treasure. The wine is regarded as one of the deepest, most refined and characterful expressions of Ribeira Sacra.
In the glass, Finca Meixemán offers an elegant and nuanced aromatic profile: red fruit, violets, wild herbs and mineral undertones, with delicate floral touches and subtle earthy nuances. Depending on the vintage, aromas may range from hibiscus and red berries in younger years to more expressive cherry, blackberry, spice and gentle smoky notes in more mature vintages. On the palate, the wine is refined and multi layered: light to medium in body, fresh and driven by fine tannins and an energetic tension resulting from the cool microclimate and high altitude vineyards.
Vinification follows Guímaro’s classical approach, executed with extra precision due to its single vineyard nature. Depending on the harvest, forty to sixty five percent whole clusters are used and maceration may extend up to fifty to fifty five days, enhancing structure and aromatic detail. Fermentation takes place in wooden tronconic tanks or closed vats with native yeasts. The wine then matures for ten to twelve months in used French oak barrels of 225 to 500 litres, sometimes preceded by a period in larger foudres. Bottling is always done without fining or filtration, preserving purity and terroir expression.
Serve Finca Meixemán ideally at 15–17°C, allowing its red fruit, floral elegance and mineral tension to fully unfold. Its layered character and finesse pair beautifully with game, red meat, stews, grilled poultry and dishes with earthy or spicy elements. With its balance and length, it also shines in more gastronomic settings.
Finca Meixemán is a wine for lovers of finesse, terroir driven depth and top level traditional Galician craftsmanship. In its youth it shows pure energy and floral vibrancy; with a few years of bottle age it gains fascinating complexity. The finest vintages have an impressive ageing potential of ten to fifteen years, sometimes longer, making it one of the most distinguished and refined references of Ribeira Sacra.
