Fossolupaio is an approachable, terroir driven Rosso di Montepulciano that elegantly combines 85% Sangiovese and 15% Syrah. The wines come from the Fossolupaio and Vallocaia parcels in Paterno and Argiano, planted at 275–415 metres elevation with southern to north west exposures and soils dominated by sandy clay.
Vinification is clean and modern: controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks at 21–23 °C with an 8–10 day maceration to extract fresh colour, fruit and gentle tannins. After fermentation the wine matures for a minimum of 6 months in inox followed by at least 3 months of bottle ageing, resulting in taut fruit notes, lively acidity and a pleasant mouthfeel.
In the glass Fossolupaio shows an inviting profile of fresh red fruit and floral accents with a subtle Syrah spice. The attack is very accessible and lively, the palate well structured with pleasant juiciness that makes it suitable for a whole meal.
Serve at 16–18 °C in a generous glass. Ideal with grilled meats, roasted vegetables, pasta with rich tomato sauce and mild to moderately aged cheeses.
