Ried Wachtberg lies in the southern part of Krems, with south-facing terraces nestled behind the old city wall. The vines take root in a mix of loess and primary rock: the loess lends velvety smoothness, while the Urgestein provides pure minerality. This is a classic Grüner Veltliner that effortlessly combines elegance and strength.
The harvest takes place at the end of September with utmost care. After manual selection, the grapes undergo 6 hours of skin contact, followed by 48 hours of natural sedimentation. Eight weeks of fermentation at low temperature and six months of aging on fine lees yield that refined structure.
In the glass, it appears pale yellow-green with silvery brilliance. The nose is fruit-driven: mango and pineapple flank a subtle tobacco note. On the palate, crisp acidity and ripe apple dominate; a delicate touch of sweetness in the finish makes it utterly irresistible.
