Guardiavigna

Guardiavigna is the elegant, characterful Cabernet Franc from Podere Forte: a terroir driven expression that combines power and finesse with remarkable purity and refined aromatic intensity. This single varietal cuvée reflects the mineral character of the schist soils and the cool altitude of Castiglione d’Orcia in every sip.

The Guardiavigna vineyard covers one hectare at 510 metres above sea level, south west facing and managed according to organic and biodynamic principles. Soils consist of schist with a clay layer in the first 60 cm; this composition provides the grapes with concentration, minerality and natural freshness that define the wine’s style.

Vinification is traditional and terroir focused: spontaneous fermentation in French oak vats, with a maceration lasting up to 35 days to extract colour, aromatic complexity and tannins gently but thoroughly. After fermentation Guardiavigna ages 18–20 months in French oak casks and barriques, followed by 18–24 months of bottle maturation. This extended, controlled élevage produces a wine with a structured core, refined oak notes and integrated tannins while keeping the primary Cabernet Franc aromas clear.

In the glass Guardiavigna shows a deep, concentrated colour. The nose opens to elegant notes of ripe dark berries, violets and green herbs, complemented by subtle toast and spicy nuances from oak ageing. On the palate it combines pure, precise structure with juiciness, a fine mineral backbone, deep succulent tannins and a long, harmonious finish that brings both length and complexity.

Serve Guardiavigna at 15–16 °C in a large glass. It pairs perfectly with grilled red meats, roasted lamb, game dishes with rich jus and mature cheeses. Its balance of freshness and seriousness also makes it well suited to bottle ageing, developing additional complexity over time.
