La Dula is a high altitude Garnacha from old vineyards in Rivas de Tereso, planted on steep slopes around 700 metres above sea level. The vineyards grow on heterogeneous, marl based soils with limestone, clay and gravel, and benefit from an Atlantic tinged climate: abundant sunshine, cool nights and a fresh, mountainous character. This wine is spicy and notably floral, and was named by Tim Atkins as a “stand out wine 2020”.
In the glass, La Dula shows a clear, elegant cherry red colour. The nose is floral and fresh, wildflowers and roses alongside ripe red fruit, with Mediterranean herbs and subtle mineral notes. On the palate the wine is sharp and lively: a surprising acidity perfectly balanced by soft, rounded tannins, a concentrated fruit core and a pure freshness that immediately transports you to the foot of the mountain.
Winemaking is restrained and terroir driven: slow, spontaneous fermentation in small foudres at low temperature, followed by ageing in 300 litre amphorae so the Garnacha can breathe and round out. The wine is bottled unfiltered and unfined; the limited production (around 3,600 bottles) underlines the artisanal approach.
Serve La Dula lightly chilled at 14–16 °C. It pairs beautifully with grilled red and white meats, lamb dishes with Mediterranean herbs, mushroom risotto and roasted vegetables. This wine is best enjoyed with dishes that allow its mineral freshness and floral notes to shine.
