La Pèira is the flagship of the La Pèira estate and a pure expression of the unique terroir of the single vineyard Bois de Pauliau. The cuvée is built around Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre, with an average production of about 3,000 bottles per vintage. It is a concentrated, terroir driven wine that combines power with finesse.
In the glass La Pèira shows a deep, inky ruby colour. The nose opens with concentrated black and blue fruit, cassis, blackcurrant and blackberry, complemented by Provençal garrigue, violet notes, smoky meat tones and a subtle peppery spice. With air, layers of cocoa, bay leaf and mineral notes emerge; the aromatic complexity is both intense and refined, typical of top Syrah from the region.
On the palate the wine is full and rich, with a lavish structure, ripe yet precise tannins and a fresh acidity that balances the richness. The texture is silky and the finish long and layered, with recurring notes of black fruit, spices and a mineral, slightly saline undertone that confirms the terroir expression.
Winemaking combines modern precision with classical élevage: the blend (varying by vintage) is often aged for two years, with a limited proportion of new oak (around 10% new barrels in some vintages) to provide structure and complexity without overshadowing purity.
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Food pairing: ideal with roasted or grilled red meats, lamb, game, rich stews and mature cheeses; particularly successful with dishes featuring Provençal herbs and roasted vegetables.
