Discover Elena Walch’s Lagrein Alto Adige DOC, a robust yet elegant red wine crafted from 100 % indigenous Lagrein. This VIVA-certified wine captures the strength of south-facing slopes on limestone soils, where warm summer days and cool nights ensure ideal ripening.
The terroir around Tramin consists of limestone-rich ground blended with clay and sand on both sides of the southeast and southwest–facing ridge. A strict selection of the finest bunches guarantees concentrated expression of ripe fruit and mineral freshness.
After hand harvesting, the must undergoes traditional temperature-controlled fermentation for about ten days in stainless steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation in French and Slavonian oak casks (70 hl and 22 hl). The wine then matures in large wooden foeders, where it develops a supple texture and subtle wood nuances.
In the glass, this Lagrein glows with an intense, deep garnet red color. The nose reveals discreet spicy notes, a hint of cocoa, and suggestions of wild berries and sweet cherries. On the palate, it delivers a distinctive tannin structure, a full, soft body, and a playful, rustic elegance with youthful freshness. The long, juicy finish makes it irresistible.
Serve lightly chilled (16–18 °C) with savory, robust dishes such as venison, game, red meat, or aged cheeses.
