This Supertuscan from the legendary Ornellaia winery is a beautiful expression of the Tuscan coast and the sunny Mediterranean. The wine, rich and generous, immediately reveals its complexity with a pleasing lightness that is evident both in the bouquet and on the palate. Dark fruits like crushed blackberries and plums mingle with deeper aromas of spices, leather, and sweet tobacco, with beautifully managed tannins.The dense richness and concentration of this wine are driven by the smaller, more compact berry size, characteristic of the dry, hot growing season. The black and purple fruits seamlessly transition into nuances of spices, tobacco, leather, and those distinctive Mediterranean notes of black olives and wild sage. These various elements work in perfect harmony, creating a wine with significant weight and density on the palate, and a very long and pleasant mouthfeel.The vineyard soils, characterized by reddish sand with limestone, contribute to the unique expression of this wine. Fermentation takes place in both stainless steel and cement, followed by malolactic fermentation and 18 months of aging in barrique, with an additional 12 months of bottle aging.
