Originating from the cool, higher elevation area of San Martín de Unx in Navarra, where old bush vines grow on calcareous and clay limestone slopes between 500 and 600 metres, Pasos de San Martín delivers a pure, fresh expression of Garnacha. The grapes come partly from the Zarramendi and La Plana plots, known for their poor, limestone rich soils and strong sense of terroir.
The result is an elegant “village” Garnacha with bright fruit intensity and refined structure. The style is lively and approachable, with a Mediterranean spiciness and a juicy core that invites another glass.
In the glass, the wine shows vibrant ruby hues. The nose offers wild herbs, ripe red fruit, blue flower notes and a hint of menthol or mint. On the palate it is energetic and fruit driven, with fine, fresh tannins and lively acidity.
Harvesting is done by hand in small crates with strict selection. After a short cold maceration, fermentation takes place in open vats or stainless steel; malolactic fermentation occurs in barrel. The wine is then aged in 500 litre French oak for 9–12 months to refine texture without overshadowing the fruit.
Serve at 16–18?°C, optionally after a brief decant. Excellent with rack of lamb or game, grilled vegetables with herbs, hearty stews, fine charcuterie and aged cheeses.
