Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru En Caradeux comes from a 1.8 hectare parcel on an east facing slope, located close to the renowned vineyards of Corton Charlemagne. The combination of clay, loess and sand, together with the altitude of the site, gives this Chardonnay a pronounced minerality and a precise, terroir driven character.
In the glass, the wine shows a pale golden colour. The nose is very fresh, with delicate citrus notes and white fruit aromas, complemented by a distinctive mineral, almost saline undertone. On the palate, the attack is exceptionally pure and focused; the texture is fine and taut, offering beautiful complexity and a long, precise finish that highlights both minerality and freshness.
Winemaking is traditional and meticulous: hand harvesting in small crates, whole cluster pressing and cool fermentation in oak barrels (around 16 °C for 15–20 days) to preserve both complexity and freshness. The wine then matures on fine lees in French oak barrels, with cooper selection and toast levels carefully tailored to the terroir.
Serve at 10–12 °C. An excellent match for shellfish, lightly seared scallops, turbot in cream sauce and rich regional cheeses such as Époisses or Comté.
