Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru Vergelesses comes from a 5.3 hectare parcel on the southern slope of the Corton hill. The heavy, partly loamy topsoils and more clay rich subsoils give this Pinot Noir power, depth and a pronounced sense of terroir: concentrated fruit, firm structure and a subtle mineral backbone.
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby colour. The nose opens with ripe red and black berries, accompanied by spicy notes and hints of cocoa. On the palate it is complex and vibrant, with a full texture, well integrated oak and silky tannins; the finish is long, generous and ends on a light mineral touch.
Winemaking is meticulous: hand harvesting, partial destemming (around 50 %), a five day cold pre fermentation maceration and fermentation in small stainless steel tanks. Gentle gravity assisted pressing and 18 months of ageing on fine lees in French oak barrels (about 25 % new) provide a balance between concentration and finesse.
Serve at 14–16 °C. Excellent with grilled entrecôte, red meats, game and rich regional cheeses such as Époisses or Brillat Savarin.
