The Barbera d’Alba Ruvei DOC from Marchesi di Barolo is a tribute to one of Piedmont’s most traditional grape varieties. The wine is predominantly based on Barbera, complemented by 15% Nebbiolo, which adds finesse, structure, and elegance to the overall profile. The grapes come from vineyards with limestone-rich clay soils and layers of white marl, providing tension, depth, and a powerful yet well-balanced character that is typical of the appellation.

The wine displays a deep purplish-red colour. On the nose, it is fresh and expressive, with aromas of blackberry, red fruit, and subtle spicy notes. On the palate, it is full and enveloping, offering juicy fruit, a lively yet beautifully integrated acidity, and a harmonious, smooth finish. The presence of Nebbiolo adds an extra layer of refinement and length, making the wine even more elegant and complex.

Following manual harvesting, the grapes are carefully destemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures, with regular pump-overs to optimise the extraction of colour, aromas, and polyphenols. After alcoholic fermentation, racking is carried out at the appropriate moment to preserve balance and elegance.

Ageing lasts approximately one year and takes place partly in large Slavonian oak casks, which soften and round the wine, and partly in stainless steel tanks to retain the fresh, fruit-driven character of the Barbera.

Ideally served at 16–18?°C, this wine pairs beautifully with pasta dishes featuring rich sauces, grilled meats, charcuterie, or semi-hard cheeses. It is an approachable yet characterful Barbera that charms when young and has the ability to evolve gracefully over the coming years.
