Tinto Pesquera Gran Reserva 'Millenium'

The Tinto Pesquera Millenium Gran Reserva exemplifies elegance and power in one bottle. Crafted from 100% tempranillo grapes grown in the legendary Viña Alta plot, it continues the Millenium tradition that began in 1996. At over 800 m elevation on south-facing slopes, the grapes ripen in deep, pebble-rich sandy and gravel soils that provide optimal drainage and a refined mineral undertone.

The climate in Pesquera de Duero is relentless and extreme: long, cold winters give way to short, dry summers with high daytime temperatures. After strict hand selection, the grapes undergo classic vinification: fully destemmed fermentation with indigenous yeasts under precise temperature control in stainless steel tanks, followed by 26 months of aging in French oak barriques. This extended barrel aging yields complex layers of cedar, roasted spices and subtle vanilla oak, without sacrificing the fruit’s purity and vitality.

In the glass, the Millenium Gran Reserva shines with a deep red core flowing into violet highlights. The nose opens with layered aromas of black cherries and ripe blackberries, accompanied by gently sweet spice, tobacco and a hint of bay leaf. With a bit of aeration, notes of dark chocolate, espresso and a soft earthy undertone emerge, recalling the unique Viña Alta terroir.

On the palate, this gran reserva reveals an unparalleled balance of concentration and finesse. Its full body is supported by velvety ripe tannins and a refreshing acidity that enhances the wine’s aromatic depth. Black fruits evolve into warm cocoa notes and subtly spicy accents, while an intense, lingering finish leaves a lasting impression.

This wine shines alongside traditional beef or game stews, grilled lamb and powerful aged cheeses such as Manchego or mature Pecorino.

Although already impressive now, its ten-year (or longer) aging potential promises continuous development and deepening in the cellar.
