Vallocaia

Vallocaia Riserva is the ultimate expression of Sangiovese from Tenuta Vallocaia: a rich, complex and elegantly structured Riserva that unites concentration, finesse and grace. This cuvée (95% Sangiovese, 5% Colorino) comes from the finest parcels in Argiano and is produced only in top vintages, yielding low volumes and maximum quality. 

The Vallocaia vineyard sits at 300–320 metres of elevation, facing south, on sandy clay soils. Vines are trained using classical systems (Cordon and Guyot) to ensure healthy ripening and clear terroir expression. 

Vinification is careful and traditional: controlled fermentations in stainless steel tanks at 25–28 °C with a maceration of around 20 days to fully develop colour, structure and aromatic complexity. The wine matures for approximately two years in French oak barriques and large casks, then rests for at least one year in bottle. This extended élevage produces refined tannin structure and integrated oak notes without obscuring the primary fruit. 

In the glass Vallocaia Riserva opens with deep, layered aromas of flowers and citrus alongside dark fruit and elegant umami accents. On the palate the wine reveals slowly unfolding power: fine tannins, refreshing acidity and a long, persistent finish that gradually unveils complexity and length. The result is a majestic yet precise Riserva that impresses immediately and will age effortlessly for many years. 

Serve Vallocaia Riserva around 20 °C in a large glass. It is an ideal match for red meat, game, truffle or mushroom (porcini) preparations and mature cheeses, and is equally enjoyable on its own as with refined cuisine.
