Kettmeir
The soul of Alto Adige in sparkling perfection
High in the sun-drenched valleys of South Tyrol, where crisp mountain air meets mineral-rich soils, Kettmeir has been crafting sparkling wines using the Metodo Classico since 1919. Here, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc ripen slowly under the Alpine light, before resting for years on the lees. The result: elegant bubbles with a fine mousse, pure freshness, and an unmistakable echo of their mountainous terroir
Sparkling from the mountains of Alto Adige
In the heart of Alto Adige, where the Alpine air is fresh, the sun kisses the vineyards, and the Dolomites shape the horizon, Kettmeir has been creating sparkling wines since 1919 that capture the soul of their mountain terroir. On high-altitude slopes around picturesque Caldaro, where day-to-night temperature swings are pronounced, Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco and Pinot Nero find a unique expression: refined, mineral, and with a lively freshness that only this region can deliver.
Kettmeir’s Metodo Classico is more than a technique – it is a philosophy where time, precision, and respect for the land come together. Since 1992, the estate has devoted itself to this method, carrying out each step with care: from the base wine (cuvée) in autumn, to the second fermentation in bottle in spring, followed by a long ageing on the lees. The process of tirage, autolysis, remuage and disgorgement is executed here with near-mathematical precision, resulting in sparkling wines with a fine mousse, layered aromas, and an elegant structure.
A Terroir that speaks in every bubble
The terroir of Alto Adige takes centre stage. The steep vineyards, often above 500 metres, rest on weathered Devonian schist and porphyry soils, which impart minerality and tension to the wines. The fresh mountain air and the reflection of the sun on the valley’s lakes give the grapes a slow, even ripening, allowing aromas to fully develop without sacrificing freshness.
The result is a collection of sparkling wines that each carry the DNA of South Tyrol – rich, refined, and infused with the elegance of their origin.
“There is a lot of talk about territory, and we want you to feel it from the moment you put your nose in the glass. Whoever drinks Kettmeir’s Traditional Method must think: ‘This is South Tyrol’” – Josef Romen, Technical Director of Kettmeir.
Athesis Brut – pure mountain bubbles
A blend in which Pinot Blanc whispers elegance, while Chardonnay and Pinot Noir enhance the harmony. The wine is lively, mineral and refined, with a fine mousse and a balance between freshness and maturity. Ideal as an aperitif, but also a versatile partner at the table.
Athesis Brut Rosé – the colour of the Dolomites at sunset
With its pale salmon hue and peach reflections, this wine recalls the Dolomites in the evening light. On the nose, aromas of raspberry, sweet spices and subtle yeast notes entice. On the palate, it is dynamic yet refined, with elegant freshness and delicate creaminess.
Kettmeir’s sparkling wines are not only the product of craftsmanship, but also of courage and vision. The estate has put South Tyrolean bubbles back on the map, with respect for tradition and an open eye to the future. Each bottle is an ode to the mountains, the people, and the time it takes to achieve true greatness.
