Tenuta Sette Ponti

Tenuta Sette Ponti, Tuscany with a modern soul

Tenuta Sette Ponti is a modern, influential Tuscan estate that marries the Mediterranean warmth of the Valdarno region with an international ambition for precision and structure. The estate does not present itself as a traditional Chianti house but as a place where local conditions and international grape varieties meet to produce wines that are both powerful, structured and surprisingly refined.

The vineyards extend across different altitudes within Valdarno di Sopra, giving the estate a palette of textures and ripening rhythms. This diversity forms the architecture behind both the accessible everyday wines and the emblematic cuvée Oreno.

A vision rooted in tradition and innovation

The story of Tenuta Sette Ponti begins as an artisanal estate that, through sustained effort and a clear vision, has become a point of reference in central Tuscany. The family has consistently invested in cellar modernization, a scientific approach in the vineyard and the acquisition of oenological know‑how without losing the local identity.

This strategy results in an environment where care for the terroir and technological finesse reinforce each other: the aim is maximum grape purity, controlled phenolic ripeness and a balance that combines Mediterranean concentration with a clean European structure. This dual ambition has clearly placed Tenuta Sette Ponti on the international map since the 1990s.

A mosaic of terroirs

Sette Ponti’s vineyards are scattered across a varied landscape of clay‑sandy soils, limestone layers and fluvial alluvial zones which, combined with local microclimates, allow different grape varieties to reach optimal ripeness. The Valdarno valley where Sette Ponti sits experiences warm days and cool nights, which preserves freshness and acidity in the grapes and gives the wines a tighter structure and greater longevity than one might expect from a southern region.

Old vines are complemented by carefully selected new plantings and international varieties that seek their best expression in the estate’s specific soils. Biodiversity measures and organic principles are increasingly integrated into management, with particular attention to soil life and water management as pillars of healthy, concentrated yields.

From vine to cellar, controlled expression

Work in the vineyard is pragmatic and results‑oriented: yields are strictly controlled to ensure optimal ripeness and aromatic concentration, mechanical and manual interventions alternate depending on parcel and vintage, and harvest takes place when the balance between sugar, acidity and tannins is optimal. In the cellar, Sette Ponti combines modern maceration methods, temperature‑controlled fermentations and precise barrel ageing to achieve elegance and finesse.

Wood use is tailored to the objective: new oak is carefully selected and dosed to provide structure and length without smothering the fruit, and prolonged élevage in barrel followed by bottle maturation ensures integration and a refined tannic profile.

Oreno, iconic Supertuscan

Oreno is Tenuta Sette Ponti’s jewel, conceived as an elegant and powerful interpretation of a Bordeaux blend in Tuscan conditions — a true Supertuscan. From the earliest vintages, Oreno was perceived as a statement: it is not an imitation of Bordeaux but a dialogue between cabernet‑driven structure and the Valdarno’s Mediterranean climate, with terroir evident in the wine’s minerality and compact core of dark fruit.

On the nose, Oreno typically opens with intense, concentrated aromas of cassis, black cherry and dark berries, accompanied by notes of cedar, graphite and marked minerality. On the palate the wine shows a powerful yet controlled tannic structure that allows for length and development; the acidity keeps the wine fresh and prevents the whole from becoming heavy or monotonous.

Ageing brings layers of dark chocolate, tobacco, roasted spices and a subtle balsamic refinement, while the oak influence always remains subordinate thanks to rigorous barrel selection and slow integration. Oreno is explicitly crafted for longevity: young vintages require patience and sometimes a short aeration to fully open, but after five to fifteen years the wine reveals a harmony and complexity that make it a benchmark among modern top Tuscan wines.

Sette Ponti’s signature, terroir and elegance

Through Oreno and the rest of its range, Tenuta Sette Ponti expresses a clear, modern vision: wines that remain true to their Italian origin while speaking an international, refined language, with deep respect for terroir, technical precision and gastronomic potential.
